I saw an ad the other day for total cereal. They showed the Nutrition Facts panel, where all the vitamins that contain 100% in the product. The speaker, at the end of the advertising reads: "Kashi cereal does not exceed 100% of the daily value of all these vitamins.
I do not agree with these ads: They were sure that total cereal is healthier than other cereals implies – Kashi, in this case – because it has 100%many vitamins and minerals. And this is not true.
True that a portion has a total of vitamins than other cereals. But it is complex, because a fantastic and unique as a grain with vitamins and minerals that naturally contains everything needed for the day is full! It's because the manufacturers add vitamins to the grain. In other words, you can eat a bowl of frosted flakes for breakfast, a multivitamin, and ending with the absorption of nutrients; this menu, like a bowl of Total. Okay, maybe not Frosted Flakes, because at least a few grams of total dietary fiber … Perhaps Frosted Mini-Wheat or Grape Nuts and Post Raisin Bran or Kashi.
The diet is not just enough vitamins and minerals. They are eating a variety of foods for a variety of nutrients (and therefore holds the record sensitive enough to maintain the ideal weight). Eat a bowl of Total is a choice not to eat healthier as a different brand> Cereals and multivitamin draft. There is no better than a hot breakfast with eggs and toast, and then take a multivitamin. Indeed it is the same, because the producers have added a total the equivalent of a multivitamin, their grain.
On a multivitamin is not a bad idea, especially if you know that you can not get enough fruit, vegetables, dairy products or grain products, at regular intervals. But does not guarantee that there will be well fed, except that you have lesschances of getting a vitamin deficiency.
Can also be a downside to eating highly fortified foods. Think how many people limit the consumption of cereals recommended serving sizes? Most people I know at least two or three "portions" of the label on the package, as one of its parts in the bowl! This means that people who eat a big bowl always total 300% daily value of May for many of these vitamins. Then, of course, areNatural vitamins in food they eat, while the rest of the day included. Most of the time, always at 200% – or even 500% – of the daily value of nutrients is not harmful, but there are cases where always "too good" can lead to problems especially with fat, vitamins, folic acid () in people with a deficiency of vitamin B12 is not found, and some minerals. People rarely "overdose" of vitamins from natural food sources, vitamin supplements, but taking the form of a tablet (orresult as an extra ingredient and the fortification of foods, as in total) in a large amounts are taken consistently over a period of time.
The best way to get the vitamins and minerals, of course, is through a balanced diet and good food sources of these nutrients – as we call it "nutrient dense" foods. Fortified foods that consumers can be misleading if it is implicit that food is a higher source of nutrition.
